What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a lateral or sideways curvature of a spine. It is estimated that approximately 2% of the population suffer from this condition. The curvature can start in the thoracic area of the spine and rotate down to a hump at the rib cage. Scoliosis, when severe, can put pressure on the lungs and heart and eventually affect the overall activity of a person.

Signs of Scoliosis:

  • Rib or shoulder blade prominence on one side of the body
  • Imbalance of spine
  • Uneven hips or shoulders

Chiropractic Care for Scoliosis

Chiropractic care has been proven to be an effective method for treating scoliosis. This treatment is gaining more popularity and is considered as the primary option for Scoliosis. It not only treats the existing condition, but also prevents the condition from getting worse. Studies have shown that after chiropractic care, patients who suffer from Scoliosis experience an overall stability and even a total correction of the spine.

Diagnosis and management of Scoliosis through Chiropractic Care by IMC

Chiropractors at IMC are well trained in the diagnosis and management of Scoliosis. We perform an examination, which involves examining the patient’s posture and other tests in order to determine if there is scoliosis in the spine. We measure the spine on X-ray to determine the angle of the curvature and the severity of the scoliosis.

After an initial assessment and diagnosis, we will decide on the treatments that will be most beneficial for the patient. Some of the chiropractic treatment options for Scoliosis include:

  • Spinal manipulation
  • Shoe lifts
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Isotonic

Regular visits to a chiropractor is the key to a complete recovery from Scoliosis.
